I sold the boat in order to care for my mom, who has Alzheimer's. Just this past November it finally became too much, so she is now in a memory care facility. I visit her most every day, plus there're her finances and other things to keep up with. On the plus side, I'm living on a small lake so there's always the chance of getting a Sunfish or other small sailboat.
My ex and I sailed Maine in 2002. I would have to write a book to cover everything I loved about Maine! Coming from the San Francisco Bay area, at first I was not impressed with the coast there, but within days I began to appreciate the haunting and peaceful beauty. Waking up at anchor in the fog and watching the islands appear as it cleared was magical. Navigating around the ledges was always exciting (grin). I loved the 12' tidal range - like two different worlds. We took on the lobster pots as a personal challenge, and I am VERY proud to say we never tangled up in a single one. I also loved that once we arrived the ratio of power boats to sailboats did a 180 - so many gorgeous sailboats in Maine! Sailing Eggemoggin was a joy. Eating BUCKETS of sweet blueberries. Seeing lobster and starfish in the water. The little cove off Somes Sound, where we nabbed a mooring right below the cliffs. Friendly people everywhere we went!
