Nobody escapes the potential right up through the maritimes. All in all, NOAA does a good job with what's available. It gives us all some margin of safety.

To think that just last century, we could take off from most anywhere on the coast in perfect fall weather to hand line some Cod or ship some lumber a day or two away, and find ourselves(drowning...), in the middle of a hurricane less than 48 hours later. Those poor souls would marvel at this technology.
