For what and when it was, the Datamarine unit was really a good piece of equipment.

Of course it was overtaken -- as was the IBM PC, by time and technology. It was simple, inexpensive, and pretty reliable. I have a sense the masthead units (as with most instruments) was usually the issue that most commonly had issue.
