I was still 50 or so yards from the waters edge.

You can see the edge of the water in the fold of the ice where it goes level .

As crazy as we are in New England with lake ice (we've lost 3 or 4 through thin lake ice already in Maine this season), I've never seen anyone out on our harbors, yet. The idea the mantle of ice lifts and falls more than 10 feet in 6 hours, makes it extra scary. And the photo of the dinghy in the ice was from a floating dock.

I didn't know if the ice I was on was suspended though as it held my weight.
