Tom I remember when I lived up there the Ellsworth newspaper used to keep a running total on how many of those machines disappeared beneath the ice of some lake or another. There was a strong correlation between day of the week (Friday being the busiest far and away) and numbers of accidents, usually resulting in tragic deaths. Friday nights were very busy due to alcohol involvement.
