I have been looking at a bilge high water alarm for some time now. Not for when we are off the boat, but when we are living aboard and sailing a lot. The high price, for what it is, has kept me in the just looking mode. Over $60.00 for a simple switch just seems like robbery.
A couple of days ago, a guy in house close to us had his water heater go out and dump all over his garage.
Yesterday I was looking around the toy store "Harbor Freight", and saw this. It's for sounding an alarm if or when a water heater goes bad, or a tub or washer overflows. Why will it not also work for a high water alarm? So I bought one. $9.95 +/-. It's worth a try.
I opened it, put the battery in and tested it. It uses the same principal as my electronic bilge pump switch uses. You can see the 2 small sensor dots on the remote sensing puck. Dipped it in a glass of water and it went off.... LOUD!! Took the puck out of the water and it shut off quickly.
