I don't think achieving the draft is the issue. My old Morgan 24 drew 2'9 with the board up, and that was with no trunk in the cabin. Of course if you don't mind a trunk... No, the issue is going to be getting reasonable headroom without making the boat look like a condo. The 'classic' appearance of the old designs is made possible by having the cabin sole well below the waterline, allowing for a low freeboard and a graceful cabin top. If your cabin sole is only 6" below the waterline, the rest of your headroom has got to be above the waterline.
