I would worry about that, too

unless you by sterilized firewood!
I'm presently working thru some cherry that came down in Irene year before last. I keep it in the old old shed (that has all but collapsed) until I split it, when I bring it up to a covered rack nearer the house. We have carpenter bees. Cut into a log and you find these perfect holes, about 3/8 inch diameter, running the length of it. A couple of years ago they turned a pressure-teated landscape timber into a gigantic flute. Wouldn't want them in the house . . . or the weird fungus. Another reason to leave the firewood outside until we need it is because the dog eats it.
