I read the full article on the sinking of the Bounty. There's mention of 2 micron filters that were installed instead of the 10 micron that were suppose to be there. From what I get, the rough weather stirred up the junk in the tank and clogged the 2 micron filters stalling the generator and engine.

And that's where the real trouble started. No engines and no generator for pumping water.
