I cut a 1/4 wide x 1/2" deep rabbet to give me a good glue joint for the rails and stiles as well as a pocket for the raised panel. These are interior shutters for a couple of very large double hung windows. 8 bifold shutters per window. I scaled up the shutter frames to 5/4 stock to give the panels more depth. Quite a few hinges to install now,....
