() Hope of getting it back and fear of not getting off in time if it's 'going down' FAR, FAR outweigh concerns about armchair sailors who make tsk, tsk noises about leaving it as a hazard. It's only one of many hazards 'out there'! Ideal worlds, textbook solutions etc etc go away when the rope ladder is dangling a couple feet away....
