I"ve had mixed feelings and experiences about trawler fishermen. But, they regardless of how "unfriendly" they occasionally seem, there is no question that many of them really do put themselves in harm's way on the water.
Then there are "responders". I know a number of USCG personell that seem pretty "laid back" and disinterested in service -- but there are a lot of them that step-up when the time comes to really put their lives at risk. I realize that helping recreational boaters out of stupid situations which are "inconveniences" may be boring. However, when a real Mayday is called, they do some amazing things.
