Part of our repower is moving our engine throttle and shifter to the pedestal instead of under foot in the cockpit. I called Edson and found out that our 1986 Coast 34 has a Yacht Specialties Pedestal and they went out of business 25 years ago and no joy in fitting engine controls on my pedestal. And the pedestal is old and undersized for windvane steering and crossing oceans. A new shiny 400 series 8" diameter unit will fix me right up according to the Edson fellow on the phone. I am not a machinist and I do want to feel secure about my rudder control, particularly reading this board lately. If I could swing the total redo I'd consider a tiller but relocating instruments, compass and access to aft locker would be a bridge too far. Input? Experience? Cheap used late model unit?
