The engine controls on the Edson are in a separate piece that bolts on. If the diameter is the same I'd expect it wouldn't be too hard to adapt one to your pedestal for a lot less $ than replacing the whole thing.
The basic pedestal is pretty bullet proof. The weak link in a pull-pull cable system is the chain. If you are going to keep the old one get a spare chain & cable set and know how to install it.
I broke two over the years. The cable lasts forever but the chain wears out. You can buy 304 SS chain at McMaster-Carr. Standard steel would be a lot stronger but your compass wouldn't like it.
While you are checking your steering check for excessive play in the pulleys right under the pedestal. Mine had bronze axles and they were worn pretty bad after 100,000 miles.
