Why not just put a wrench on the nut and tighten it down turning the stud and nut as one piece. If the stud rotated loose it should tighten by just rotating it back. I must be missing something.

Sorry, I missed the part that the nut didn't move on the stud. Soaking the stud with PB or other was a good idea, that usually loosens stuck nuts.
