I believe you pay your sales tax at the Belfast town office. Then, I believe you should pay and annual excise tax even though you're not Me. registered. That too is paid at your town office. It's all the same as your car.

I don't know how many documented boats pay the excise, Chris. The excise is one tax I've never gotten used to living in Maine. I don't get it, I paid sales tax on car, boat, why the annual chiseling? Some call it a use tax, I just didn't have it living in VT. Make you sales tax do what it needs to do.

I believe the Me. excise tax only keeps people away from buying new cars and boats, even(especially) for the wealthy. The excise hits you hard on new(er) vehicles/ vessels.
