I doubt if we'll find the mooring field at Cuttyhunk filled with those pickups.
A friend has an interesting guest mooring in Brenton Cove. No pennant & no pickup float. The ball has a short stainless bar sticking out of the top of it - drilled 1/2". If you want to use the mooring, a) you have to know where it is, and b) you have to be prepared with your own pennant with a thimble and shackle on the far end. When I use it, I put the Admiral in the dingy with the pennant and drop her at the mooring. I do a circle and come back when she has the pennant ready.
