When we were in Panama we had our Yamaha 2 stroke 15 hp stolen and locally purchased a 9.8 Tohatsu. Thinking that our heavy AB was too much for the smaller engine we also purchased a lightweight 9ft AB. Within 1 minute we realized we disliked it so much we didn't want it. (should have gotten the light fiberglass bottom instead)
We were in the San Blas and sold it to a couple going to the South Pacific on their smallish Tayana for $1,000.00 less than we paid for it just to get rid of it. The aluminum boat really sucked. It was unstable, skinny and uncomfortable. I could stand on one of the tubes on our older heavy AB when along side another boat with no problem. If i did that with the aluminum AB it would have flipped. Of course it did weigh 50 lbs lighter at 95.
I can only suggest you be very careful when buying aluminum as they have a completely different feel. Our 9ft heavy Ab (140lb) was an SUV compared to the aluminum one that was like a skateboard. The correct choice for us would have been to buy the fiberglass 110lb model.
