I use a bowline myself, but I can see these two hitches having application. The Jeanneau 'blood knot' seems good for halyards or sheets, while the buntline would seem good for where the clew reef line comes back to the boom.
FWIW, none of my halyards have an eye splice - I agree that they tend to jam in the sheaves.
Now just have to address the jib sheet knots hanging up on the shrouds. Perhaps a split foam cone, bored to fit the sheet, taped in place??
