Very familiar with May Gray/June Gloom... this is lingering longer
In Response To: We called that "June Gloom" ()

past OTL season. The last couple of weeks we have had significant "Catalina Eddy" patterns that have kept the skies gray and the water cold.

I am an open water swimmer and this is the first time since the late '1970s that I can recall water temps in the low '60s this late in the season. Oh we have had upwellings in the past that drive the temp down for a few days, but this has gone on for weeks now...

Time will tell of course. Usually by the end of Aug, and into Sept the water temps are around the low '70s... we shall see.

I do recall several seasons of fluke red tides... ("chocolate water" as far as the eye can see...) have not had anything like that this year, so no doubt this is just some temporary weather shift.
