Sometimes shaft can stay, stern tube gets pulled
In Response To: Cutlass Bearing Replacement ()
I was surprised when the yard opted to pull our stern tube rather than disturb the shaft seal. I don't know if this is an option on many boats.
I'll leave it to more knowledgeable folks to answer your original question.
