A new cutlass bearing shouldn't change the allingment. My take on checking allingment is to pull the coupler flanges together. If the outside edge touches in all directions it's alinged. If you want to be really serious check it with a feeler gauge. I know there's a lot of talk about alignment but I never had a problem. 12 years ago I hired a guy to do some work including allinging the shaft. He unbolted it, turned the shaft to check wobble and put it back together. Said it was fine.
I had a new shaft and dripless put on by Hinkley in Stuart 3 years ago and even with the new shaft, cutlass bearing, dripless and rear flange the mechanic put it together saying he did a quick check finding it was fine and didn't need to be alinged.
If it feels out of alingment it probably is.
As always,,,, your milage may vary.
