I'm very pleased with mine
In Response To: How do you like the HDS 7? ()

As Larry says, the radar close-in detail is excellent. With a Point-1 GPS Sensor ($200) I was able to do overlay on the chart, which is well worth it. I will probably load the Navionics charts, as Larry suggests, but so far the built-in Lowrance ones seem OK. I just went with the buttons, not the touch-screen, to save a few dollars and it works fine. The low power draw and instant-on of the radar are nice features along with the close-in detail.

Question for Larry - which transducer do you have? Sounds like one of the structure scan units? I want to add depth to my HDS-7, so I have a backup to my old B&G depth sounder. I already have an unused hole in the hull where the speedo used to go, so can use that. Not sure if it's worth going with the structure scan unit which is quite a bit bigger transducer. It might help to see what the bottom looks like for anchoring, but wouldn't the chart pretty much show the same thing?
