That is not my watts comparison, they are numbers my customers seem to get off the internet. The customer that cooked his 6V told me exactly what he'd read on multiple sites including the WM site which he then cut in HALF thinking he would be safer. I have seen a number of banks "cooked" by things my customers claim to have read on the net regarding controller-less panels and when they actually need a controller..
Keep in mind the WM data says 1.5A for a 100Ah battery not 1.5% in watts. Not my numbers but theirs and this is nearly double the 10% in watts my customer claims to have read and used.
The WM advice equates to a panel of approx 25 watts for a 100Ah battery if we buy it by "amps" or Impp....... 1.5% of a 100Ah battery, in watts, would obviously be a 1.5 watt panel, and likely perfect, but WM is not saying 1.5% in watts they are saying 1.5 AMPS for a 100Ah battery.
Can you see how the average DIY gets confused.....??
This is West Marines statement:
"This means that a 1.5A panel is the largest you should use without a regulator on a 100-amp-hour battery."
Note that the West Marine Advisor says nothing about Ah's or Ah's per day on average they say 1.5 AMP panel for a 100Ah battery......
A 1.5 AMP panel, if that is how a customer shops, by current/Impp, means they will buy roughly a 25W panel to charge a 100Ah battery and think it is safe.
This is the entire West Marine Advisor statement:
"Do you need a charge controller?
As a general rule panels that produce less than 1.5% of a battery’s rated capacity in amp hours don’t require regulation. This means that a 1.5A panel is the largest you should use without a regulator on a 100-amp-hour battery. Regulators should generally be used any time you have two or more large panels connected to your batteries.]
If we translate that advice to watts:
*They are suggesting that approx 25% in watts/Ah capacity is safe
*They are also saying that unless you have two or more large panels connected to your batteries you will be safe without a controller.....
Again these are not "my" comparisons/numbers these are comparisons my customers read on the net, from supposed trusted sources such as the West Marine Advisor and then destroy batteries.... Can you see why I made that video.....?
