... that plastic stuff with holes, so air can move around and no moisture collects, I forget what's it called, sorry Max. This sits on top of the marine-plywood V-berth panels, which are varnished both sides, all completely and easily removable. Then the foam cushions, we have two long triangular ones, sorry, don't recall the type of foam, but a higher suitable for marine grade and perhaps 5". These are upholstered in Sunbrella. On top of that we have a very nice, somewhat luxurious 2" memory foam topper, sort of like TempurPedic. We got that from Handcraft Mattress Co in LA, I think I saw their ad in Good Old Boat, this topper has a very nice cover over the foam. It wasn't inexpensive, something like $700 ... I sent them a template and it is custom to fit exactly. These are wonderful, I don't think we could ever go without. Then we have custom bottom fitted sheets to fit perfectly around the V-berth cushions & topper, and then a double size flat sheet, either cotton or flannel, depending on weather. And then 100% New Zealand Merino wool blankets. I had investigated using a down comforter, some said no way on a boat, some said they use them on boats and love 'em. I don't think I could sleep a bunch of nights in a bag, if I'm on the boat for a number of nights, i want to be comfortable and sleep well. I think if we were to spend a fair bit of time in cooler climates, I would take the chance on a down comforter over the bedding described above.
Sounds like a fun project for you both to try out Max ! Cheers, John
