I hate the large brimmed hats like the Tilley hats. The brims are so large that I'm constantly banging into stuff with my head and getting a crick in my neck from tiliting my head so far back to be able to see the sails and windex. Worse, they are so damn expensive that I'd never wear one on board for fear of losing it. Have been sailing with Booney Hats, the Viet Nam era hats, for years. They have a chin strap which keep it on my head except in a strong tailwind. The brim is large enough to keep sun off my ears and face but not so large that upward vision is obstructed. Best of all, they are under $15 in Surplus stores. If you have an allergy to OD color, they came in a bunch of Camo. colors as well as solids that don't scream 'surplus' like Navy Blue.
