Curiously, two high speed cat ferries I have been on lately have not had functioning AIS.

() The one from Boston to Salem, and one in SF Bay. Both operating at 20-30 knots at night. I spoke to the mate of the Salem fairy, he said the captain "hated" sailboats. I would keep my eyes open around there! But for those actually using them, AIS is certainly the way to go.
