I was delivering a 52' Hinckley back to SW from Trinidad for some warranty work in 2003..bad hull blistering. We followed Fabian into Bermuda trying to stay behind it's SW quadrant...still had 25' foot seas, winds easily over 50 at times and green water over the house several times. Lashed to the wheel while on watch..loads of fun..not. But now one of my best stories. You haven't lived until you've been broad sided by a breaking wave and laid down. Either you love it all, even the scary and uncomfortable stuff.... be it after the fact...once you have survived it, or you are not really a blue water sailor.
Best comment from the captain after a waved washed over the house and me while I was on midnight watch. I asked why didn't anyone check on me..the answer.."Well the boat was still tracking on coarse so I figured you were still up there hanging on and if you weren't we weren't going to find you anyway!
