I guess the nature of buying used is that our boats all need something done when we get them and seem to look really good when we sell them(so I'm told). They always sell quickly and we get a nice price. Our local broker says we are the luckiest SOB's he has ever seen. Our record for selling was 10 minutes for the Catalina 27, 1 hour for the last powerboat. The Islander was no exception. After three years of work we sold it in less than 2 weeks for more than we paid for it, had 9 different buyers looking. All good. But, there is a certain amount of feeling that I have for all of our ex-boats, like a parent I guess? I know where they all are (except for the power boats) and look in periodically to see how they are holding up. I never see or talk to the current owners, I don't much care who they are. I'm just interested in how my work looks. I'm pleased that with the exception of the Islander, all the boats are looking great and show pride in ownership.
I looked in on the Islander over the weekend. It was one of the last boats to be hauled on the bay this season, October 25th. A month later it is sitting in the snow with no winter cover, mast up, the RF, main and mainsail cover still on, docklines are hanging over side, bimini still on. The only boat in the storage lot not prepared for winter. With how high it sits on the stands and the sails still on, I suspect this is going to be an insurance claim just waiting for the right winter storm blowing off the lake to happen.
New owners..........sigh.
