You do have the chain in a chain stopper as a back up, don't you?
I use a snap shackle, the largest that would fit into the chain link, spliced to 3/8 inch nylon three strand and wrapped around a rubber mooring snubber. The snap shackle has been in use for 20 years without failure. The nylon wears out or breaks every few years and gets replaced. If the nylon breaks under load the chain stopper takes the load and the chain catenary is the shock absorber. Minimum five to one scope. Primary purpose of the snubber is to stop the chain noise.
I rode out 74 MPH winds this way, no problem. Of course I had ten to one scope out for that.
