Outerbanks anchoring

Hello, Max asked if I had any information.

I would not recomend anchoring or even entering Kitty Hawk Bay. I have a Niagara 35 with a draft of 5'4" and I would not enter the bay. I have anchored in Buzzard Bay overnight with a NE wind. I would only anchor here with a N, NE or E wind because you can not navigate very far into Buzzard Bay. If you want to go ashore you will need to dingy about 2.5 miles through "Colington Cut" and under the brige to the 5th st public boat ramp. The good news is you will have a bike/walking path that will take you directly to the monument.

I would recomend spending a night or 2 at the Manteo Waterfront. You can stay at the free dock for a few nights. Tie up along the Gazebo and do not use the boat slips leading out to the lighthouse.

Carl Jordan is the dock master. http://www.townofmanteo.com/index.asp?SEC=78DEF008-87F3-4FAE-9CED-AEE39B6B5A35&Type=B_BASIC

Colington Harbor is the only other deep water(6'-7' at enterance) marina and it is a private comunity. Also, It is about a 10 minute car ride from the harbor to the monument.
