… which is one reason why I haven't bought new Plotters, I can't believe RM won't support the Explorer Charts now, all my other stuff is RM. I get my updated Explorer Charts every year from Jeppesen. I also carry a small Garmin 440S that I wired a DC plug adaptor to and can plug into a cockpit plug if the primary Raymarine Plotters were to fail, or I want a second opinion … a $350 investment I consider well worth it and loaded with Explorer Charts. Interestingly, the two different plotters sometimes can be a little bit different in what they display using the same software charts … for instance, the Garmin/Explorer actually shows a "path" to take through Hog Cay Cut by way of a dashed line, which is spot on, very nice thank you. While the RM/Explorer charts don't show this "path". Same Chart Updates.
I also carry maybe not the latest, but fairly recent updates of the each of the three Bahamas Explorer Paper Charts > NEAR Bahamas, FAR Bahamas, and EXUMAS.
And FYI, as Tom says, I have seen some fairly ridiculous errors and/or omissions from other cruisers using the Navionics Charts … there's NO WAY I would be in the Bahamas with those charts, it could be suicide for us, we're constantly pushing the envelop getting into here & there, and we won't hesitate to enter or leave most Cuts at night, as long as the conditions are right. There's NO WAY I would be in the Bahamas without Explorer Charts.
Cheers, John
