The first part was on tonight. While nothing can come close to re-creating the conditions and backdrop Shackleton faced, it was interesting to see footage of an exact replica of the James Caird sailing in those waters. It helps give a sense of how it must have rolled and bounced around, how the sails were set and handled, how the waves poured over the decks and down below, the cramped living space below. It was also interesting to see footage of the spit at Wild Point on Elephant Island, that's hallowed ground. I happen to be reading (for the umpteenth time) Endurance so the timing was good.
