They recreated the boat journey in a duplicate boat, with duplicate gear, food and clothing (excepting safety gear and a chase boat). They also did the traverse of South Georgia. As I said, you could never truly recreate the original journey, but this reenactment might help shed insight and understanding on what the original trip might have been like.
