A friend in the insurance industry sent me the info below. We will keep looking into it, but it isn't that big a deal to us if we can't rent the house. We were more interested in having someone look after it and would have asked them to cover the basic utilities and the like.
'A change in coverage gives the insurance company the opportunity to re-rate/re-evaluate the risk. Due to hurricane Sandy, all the companies, it seems, are very uncomfortable with anything coastal.  The fact that you/we are 100’ above MHW means nothing. It’s all wind exposure. We are in the process of getting a new “Fire/Dwelling” policy. It only covers partial losses on an ACV basis.  Rental would be included and I’m sure the price will go up despite the coverage being inferior. Bottom line seems to be if you say nothing, then coverage will likely remain reasonable. As soon as you ask for any kind of change, the insurance companies will use that as an excuse to re-rate.'
