Ah yes, Windfinder ...

forgot about dat mon. Discovered that site a few years ago and that IS the best, most accurate source for wind in the Bahamas. I assume you've figured out on that site you can locate a spot just about anywhere in the Bahamas and dial in weather for that particular spot. Usually spot on, and short term forecast usually quite good. Lots of other information available on that site. Thanks for reminding me Chris !

I use a BaTelCo $30 cell phone, a Sierra Wireless Aircard and SIM Card from BaTelCo for WiFi. As long as I'm within about 20 miles of a BaTelCo cell tower, I just plug the wireless card into my laptop and get a quite strong internet connection, to do just about anything I want, checking Windfinder, etc. Steve from this Board turned me on to this, works great !

My experience with Chris is yes, he tends to overestimate wind speed with "Events" like Fronts and LO's, probably because he wants to make sure he's extra cautious for his clients, many of whom are newbies. But for everyday, normal weather, Trades and such, I've found he is +/-5 knots low on wind speed and 2-3 feet low on wave height, from what we actually see out there. For instance, we would only cross the Stream in generally favorable weather, unless it is a very light & clocking Cold Front, so nothing unusual, and those numbers above are almost always the case. Same with making a trip along the ocean side of Eleuthera from say Conception to Harbour Island, or Conception to Crooked, not necessarily protected areas like the Bank Side of the Exumas.

Cheers, John
