Drawing any parallel might cheapen the story of Berlin and Akhmatova, but I'm thinking about the point you make Max. To me, the reason to honor the heritage is because it is worthy of honor. You know a boat is a masterpiece when you can see that every detail is there for a reason and there's harmony among the materials used, the shipwright's skills, and the intended uses. How many generations, thousands of hours of discussion by the best in the business who care enough not to make it just good enough, does it take to produce a boat masterpiece? Doesn't the passion live on in their work? Maybe I'm sentimentalizing it, but mostly I think people who build boats take great pride in their work.
