Last weekend I overheard the CG hailing a sailboat in NY Harbor. I was at dock in Glen Cove. The conversation went like this.
CG. "Sailboat (name) this is the Coast Guard permission to come aboard."
SB " CG this is ( name) we are headed into Liberty Landing, can you board us there?"
CG. " Yes, proceed to Liberty Landing."
Liberty Landing is a large marina on the New Jersey Shore opposite Manhattan in the Hudson River.
I have to admit that both I and my wife were astounded. Never before have we heard someone even attempt to negotiate with the CG as to the terms of their boarding. I don't know why this seems so extraordinary except that I'm a rule follower.
