Almost as good as in the water...
Your rant about boatyards and their fees in right on - so many overcharge for work done poorly or not done at all. Friend had his Catalina 42 at Mystic Shipyard in Noank, CT for a short haul & bottom paint. I spent several hours restoring stuff to proper operation (blocks installed improperly[90 deg out], lines led wrong) - and this is stuff that shouldn't have been disturbed for a short haul. I suspect the yard reserves it's crack crew for the 'BIG' jobs, and has the half of the crew that's 'on crack' do the rest. Don't know why the boat was 'derigged', but whoever put it back together didn't have a clue.
That mast base collar on this boat carries the halyard sheaves - which unfortunately no longer swivel. Working on the mast base requires pulling the stick. I'm thinking the cure might be worse than the disease..
