Disappointed Sovereign 17 owner; can expect the same with Montgomery 15?

Brand new member here, if this isn't the forum for this question feel free to move it.

I have owned both a Chrysler Mutineer and a Sovereign '17. The later was such a grave disappointment it was a contributing factor in me leaving the world of sailing for a long while. Now I have finally gotten rid of it and am in the market for another pocket cruiser with the Montgomery 15 at the top of the list. However I have never sailed in one before and I am worried the sailing characteristics might be similar so I turn to you good people. I found the Sovereign unresponsive, sluggish, and it felt like a wrestling match to keep it on any course when not running. It's rudder needed to be at least 15 degrees or more to windward just to keep it straight and it still drifted to leeward. Further, it's no go zone was massive and despite it's 500 lbs of lead ballast and wide beam it was all over like a bouncy castle in port during anything bigger than glass calm.

I'm not expecting scow-like performance here, but would like to hear what your experiences were with both.

Thank you.
