Sailed Off Soundings with a friend - we managed to break a winch and a whisker pole. Personally, I think the winch was broken when I got there - he tends to buy oversize lines and ends up often trying to do things with two wraps on the winch. He ended up bending the finger for the self tailer on a Lewmar 30ST. Also broke the end of the stripper ring (between the two self tailer plates) but those are cheap - $20 for a pair at Defender. I managed to get the finger of the self tailer back into shape using a 16oz 'persuader' and a handy piece of dock. The whisker pole I'll blame on the foredeck crew - just glad no one got hurt when the pole dropped. New end on order from Forespar.
Oh yeah, the Jabsco accumulator for the water system exploded - well, blew out 6 of the 8 screws holding the halves together. System will go back together with a new accumulator, plus an added pressure gauge. I'm suspicious that the pressure switch isn't shutting off and also needs replacement.
Does a blown out 150% jib count? It was blown out before we left the dock, and 20 gusting 25 doesn't do a #1 any good - even if not unrolled all the way! Skipper left the 135 and the 110 home - cut down on weight?? Needless to say, we didn't do well going to weather.
Hey, if I weren't working on a boat, I'd be working on the new house. The old place (after 45 years) was pretty much under control. Now I'm starting out on a new job list - that will probably outlive me. Hey, isn't that what son's are for??
