An old friend of mine mailed me a letter (remember those?) from the South Pacific many years ago about cruising. He was cruising on his sailboat, but said to me that cruising isn't a method of travel, but a state of mind. One can cruise on a boat, of course, but also in a car, a motorcycle, or even with one's thumb. Those thoughts have stuck with me for all these years. I also wonder when a person starts thinking of "cruising"? For me, it was in my early 20s when I learned that people were crossing oceans on small boats. For you?
I wonder if it was December 25, 2014 for this young man who discovered cruising on the back of my wife's horse? That smile never left his face. While Pam walked Jeremiah, the little boy was shaking the reins, kicking his heels, and shouting "Giddyup!!". Maybe another cruiser was born on Christmas Day.
