although in my case it was largely due to not enough room to swing a wrench... I had to also remove the exhaust manifold. And yeah, new gaskets all around.

My case also involved troubleshooting... which in of itself took a darn long time. The actual removal and replacement took about 4 hours, but that also involved replacing the muffler.
