Pictured below is Passageweather's forecast for about midday tomorrow...
Apparently, 2 guys departed Newport late yesterday, headed for Bermuda... MarineTraffic had them on AIS about 15 miles out of Narragansett Bay at 1700, headed SSE. It's the first leg of a journey intended to bring a 43-footer Nelson-Marek raceboat built by Carroll Marine they purchased on eBay for around $10K back to Australia... Judging from the pics, the boat doesn't even have a dodger...
Here's a couple of links from the Newport paper:
There's a thread about it over on Cruiser's Forum... This is the latest post, from the OP of the thread:
The CG said that we cannot see their AIS on Marine Traffic because they are out of range. They boarded them yesterday & felt that their boat & experience was adequate to make the trip to Bermuda. I don't know anything more other than to say that the CG didn't seem overly concerned, to which I was greatly relieved.
I dunno, this one might rate right up there with one of the most questionable decisions since the one to sail the BOUNTY straight into Hurricane Sandy... Time will tell, I suppose, though it somehow seems fitting that this passage began on a Friday the 13th...
