My inclination (this is not advice!) would be guided by i) does the house have an up-to-date circuit breaker panel; ii) does this outlet have a dedicate circuit that you can disable; and iii) is the wiring newer vs. Korean War or earlier.

If the installation looks at all questionable, I'd call a licensed (and competent) electrician in.

It's amazing how many houses have "hot" grounds which could really hurt someone.
