I've never seen the ocean do that!
In Response To: slush waves in Nantucket ()

Incredible..
I've seen newspaper reports from back in the '30s when the ferry couldn't get into Fishers Island because of the ice. Packed up against the shore at Silver Eel.
I've heard of a Currier/Ives print of horse & sleigh going to Fishers Island - but I haven't been able to track it down??
Personally, I've ice boated on the Thames River in the area between the Harvard and Yale boathouses - back in the early '70s. Have also sailed Ninagret Pond numerous times - when the tide is low, it's kinda like sailing in a bowl! Set your tool box down on the edge and it wants to slide towards the center.
One winter sailing Webster Lake, came in for some refreshment - a beer and some brat off the grill. Noticed my beer was a little slushy, so went to set in on the edge of the grill. There were already two beers there - thawing out! Kinda miss that sport - got out before I killed myself!
