Another tool recommendation and 30 years of cordless drill design.

Remember that "free" vacuum that came with a drill I bought? Pulled the trigger on my 30 (roughly) year old Makita 9volt right angle drill on the boat and,...nothing. As I now have a battery and a charger on the boat, I picked up a 12v Li-ion-drill only, from my supplier(around 90).

What's happened in 30 years? Different color scheme(like a video game controller...), but basically the same tool. So why recommend it? Two things: First, weight. The 9v was all battery in the handle(in fact it bumped the motor out the side-bulge in the case-clunky design). A 9v battery(nickel) must weight 2 times the Li-ion battery. And the chargers, the 9v is old transformer tech that feels like a chunk of lead. The whole package in 30 years has easily halved the weight-impressive. Anything that helps make your waterline rise, is an improvement.

But best of all, when you pull the trigger on the new drill, an LED lights up the work area. This is the second drill I've bought with that feature. That's the biggest improvement.

After I got the new drill, I pulled the trigger on the 9v, and it worked. Must be a bad battery connection(been living on boats for 20 years+). So that drill will swallow the anchor and go into the shop(bet the connection will be fine, once it dries out).
