DONGFENG just lost the top of their mast, on the final approach to Cape Horn...

It broke above the 3rd spreader, fortunately no one injured, they're making for the entrance to the Beagle Channel and Ushuaia for repairs...

I thought the show yesterday was one of the better ones in awhile, and that helicopter footage after the start of their departure from NZ of those boats sailing close-hauled into those seas left over from Cyclone Pam was pretty impressive... I can't even begin to imagine how brutal the conditions aboard those boats must be, sailing like that...

Perhaps I missed it, but I'm surprised no one posted the video of the 'Chinese gybe' MAPFRE suffered - along with several other boats - earlier in this leg... Remind me to never buy a boat with a canting keel, not much margin for error with an accidental gybe, there...
