Impressive -'template twice, cut once'.

Nice to see the attention to detail. Mahogany veneer plywood? Where did you get that, Dave?

I have one small project going under the cover. Once I reinstalled the the restored hatches,...one thing led to another...

The mahogany cabin in the vee berth has never been stripped of varnish by the looks. With the terrible weather, I decided to take the heat gun to it. That was easy. Sanding would have been murder so I reached for one of my tools I rarely use, a Fein multi tool. The newest version has a bigger motor. Fitted with a 5" disk, 80 grit paper and hooked up to a dust extractor-attention to keeping it flat, I was down to rich red mahogany in no time and a good flat surface. Very impressive what the newer Fein will as a sander, much faster than a larger RO sander.

That and the detail pad in the corners left very little hand sanding. The handhold moulding around the base, which is concave shaped, looked like murderous hand sanding. The 5" disk and 80 grit, held at an angle, did the trick! Sure it burned out the pad, but that's what power tools are for-abuse.

this was taken after heat gun varnish removal, and before I did the sanding. It already has a coat of varnish on. I plan to start spring work tomorrow, first by pulling the cover. It may snow tonight...
