Tom and I had this discussion last week when I caught him at the landing working on Christmas. I'm finding the inexpensive stuff flows out better and I'm able to use the rest of the quart the following year because it hasn't thickened beyond redemption. I only have the spruce boom and spreaders to varnish. I use Cetol products on the exterior teak trim. Not sure about the quantity of UV inhibitors in the Ace varnish but it's more than adequate for the relatively short Maine season. That may not be the case if the boat lived in Florida.
